Cancellations and Contingencies
The weather is major factor in the Avalanche Peak Challenge. This course is a true mountain run and is very exposed, so we need to take care in watching the changeable weather patterns in the Arthur’s Pass region.

Following the extremely positive feedback from the Flagpole RunUp, it has been decided to utilise this venue as a bad weather alternative for the Avalanche Peak Challenge. The Flagpole venue is very challenging and can be organised safely in almost any weather. But best of all it is only 70k from Christchurch, which makes it a very convenient last minute alternative.

A final decision regarding the bad weather alternative will be made on the Friday evening. T
he contingency plan will be advised on the event website and by automatic message on the race director’s phone – 027 293 8309.

If both the true course and the contingency plan can not be run because of really extreme weather over the entire area, and/or any incident or "act of god" outside of the race organisations control, entry fees will not be refunded.

NB:  The most likely weather pattern to force organisers to adopt the alternative course is a north-west weather front.
